Am I an addict?

AM I AN ADDICT? It was in elementary I heard the word ‘ addiction ’ for the first time. Particularly, this related to  people who were alcoholic. I could then relate to people who were very violent at home in the neighborhood. Then got to understand even cigarette and tobacco addicts were also around. And its dangerous impact. When I was in college, got to hear about the drug addiction. Never thought dozens of more addictions will arise, and I will also be a victim! These are not so serious to health and won’t impact family members the way alcoholism or tobacco addictions were. And it will not disturb our life. Our careers will not impact. I was more than confident of these facts. Well, those were a bunch of assumptions. You might think what addiction is this about? Will you be able to guess? I just hope that you’re not a victim. However, if you're one of them, no surprise honestly. Yes, these are the new age addictions, the Digital Addictions....

Experiencing the Magical Effects of the Beautiful Game

Education Changed Life - says this Grandma!

When I shared a video of why not to discontinue girls' education, I received many responses, of which the response from an elderly lady was exceptional. She endorsed the same point about the Girls' education. Here is the video if you missed watching. When she was about 15 years old, she had to get married which  was about 5 decades back. This was the time her SSLC results were yet to be announced . Nobody bothered about her education - be it her parents, husband or any relative.  Photo by  Shashank Kumawat  from  Pexels After about a decade of married life, her husband was diagnosed with a serious heart issue. That is when everybody came up with free advice. Why don't you join a textiles factory or do a job available locally - all petty ideas came out. As you can imagine, anybody at that time  would have listened to such advice and would have joined a job out of fear and helplessness. However, the lady was firm and was only thinki...

Opportunity in Disguise!

The King was a little free and so wanted to visit his favorite Sculptor Raman. The King always liked Raman's work as he finds value in each of his sculptures due to the deep and hidden meaning in each of them. The King reaches Raman's place and excited to see the new sculptures. Like any other visit, the King liked many of them and one differently looking sculpture caught his attention.  Here's how the sculpture looked. It had a human body, wings in place of hands and the face was covered . So, it's unseen if the sculpture had the human face or an animal's face or a bird's face or the sculpture is faceless! Puzzled King asks Raman, "What's this ?" Photo by  Prasanta Kr Dutta  from  Pexels Raman asks the King to guess. After several failed attempts, the King asks Raman to tell about the attention-catching sculpture. Raman says, "My lord, this sculpture depicts Opportunity !" Puzzled King, "What? Opportunity?...

My First Job Interview

It was a bad Saturday for me! Papa started to scold me from morn, He had asked me to attend Progeon Ltd Interview – the then Infosys BPO and I was in no mood too! The Year was 2005, and we were almost ready to welcome 2006. I was in my Final year of Graduation. Every weekend I was busy attending coaching to prepare for CAT (Common Aptitude test). The schedule on each Sunday used to reach Mangalore for coaching and back by evening. The too & fro journey was arduous and I hated it! When Papa told me about the Progeon interview, I was least bothered. My goal was clear – Aim for a good MBA college. Definitely, not a job! So, I told him, I don’t want to miss the classes – though I had started hating the coaching & the travel involved. But he was adamant, he knew the Interview procedure at Progeon and what I would face if I had to get into a B-School would be almost similar i.e., Written round/aptitude, GD, face to face interviews, etc. I was reluctant...

Make a Difference...

Poor Kids! It was a rainy day  and they were deprived of playing in the open ground. A ground amidst the graveyard that was compact and had just a couple of broken swings and stinking toilet around. Such is the fate of most government aided schools in India. Yet, playing there was a joyous act for the children. This was evident from the little-disappointed faces around. “Rain rain go away little children want to play” cried a small girl in me.  While children cursed the rain, I entered the classroom with slight nervousness and more excitement.  After all , it was my first interaction with the children. “Namaste Teacher,” said all the voice at once. “Good morning” was my response. Yes, I had to respond in English as I was there to conduct a short duration English learning sessions for the children. It’s very sad to know that a formal English class became a part of curriculum only from standard 5 here. “ Aidondli Aidu… Aideradli hathu ” “ Rajesha -...
